product of the week: NEON anything

I've always admired the allure and simplicity of black and grey. So, no one was more surprised than me when I became intrigued with neon. And guess what? There are a gazillion cool fluorescent art supplies. I've spent the last couple months finding kid friendly ones to try. Needless to say, our art studio will never be the same.

okay, I may have a problem but if loving neon is wrong I don't want to be right.

Here are a couple examples of recent kid work where using a neon palette or a small pop of brightness adds a fun modern twist. The painting was done on a large piece of watercolor paper with neon tempera, any brand will do. Scotch brand tape is on the secret too. They make fun colors that we add to found art sculptures. Hint: The office supply aisle is a great place to find inspiration for collage materials-neon sticky dots, bright post-its and stacks of fluorescent card stock.

try neon on neutral backgrounds like kraft paper or cardboard for a striking contrast.

Adding a little neon to your life might just make you the coolest kid on block or at least the most visible!
